How BUM Oil Became a Self-Care Essential
If someone had told me five years ago that I’d one day be creating a personal care brand for pleasure, connection, and soft skin, I probably would’ve spit out my coffee. Back then, I was navigating a life full of change, and intimacy wasn’t anywhere near my priority list.
It was 2020. The world stood still. So did I.
I was in the middle of a painful divorce. A big move. A massive reset.
With life paused, I turned inward. And, strangely enough, I also turned to skincare.
A Return to Ritual
I grew up in Kragerø, a small coastal town in Norway where life follows the rhythm of nature. Forest walks. Sea air. Simplicity. That sense of calm care stayed with me.
In Hawaii during lockdown, I began mixing skincare products in my kitchen. I wasn’t chasing trends. I just wanted something clean and body-safe that made my skin feel nourished.
One balm in particular, made with coconut oil, beeswax, and vitamin E, became my favorite. Rich, smooth, and comforting. I used it nightly, I added my active serums and water based formulas first, then the balm and woke up with softer skin than when I went to bed. Then one day, I tried it... somewhere else.
Let’s just say - I got cheeky.
The Aha Moment
That balm didn’t just feel good. It changed the whole experience.
No stickiness. No residue. Just softness, warmth, and calm. It wasn’t about sex. It was about presence. It was skincare for connection.
Eventually, I handed a few samples to friends. Their reactions? The same.
And that’s when I realized this wasn’t just a balm.
It was a ritual. A feeling. A quiet invitation to feel better in your skin.
So I gave it a name as bold and joyful as the moment it was born:
Bumlicious.
